V-Day
Here's a poem from last February. It had a happy ending but I got rid of it since I'm being denied one right now...I'll eventually rewrite a new, sad ending.
V-day
Trees stretch toward the gray sky
Above plastic hearts, both pink and red,
Force-ripe roses and bitter chocolate--
It looks like Christmas this February
14th time I could remember
Staring at cupid, praying for magic,
Turned into empty promises and tragic
Flawed lovers who had never loved,
Dressed crimson and procelein,
Hating the skin I’m in.
And now with a pink nose and card,
I see the hardest part is to trust
That time has given me my valentine.
As a shadow-of-a-sun plunges
Beneath the mountains,
My eyes are blinded by the white
Swirling around my face
As I’m wrapped tightly
Within a blanket of darkness,
Lights from lampposts quivering,
Mimicking me so easily.
How can I ever forget
The blood that men had drained from me?
Cranberry bears gather dust back home
Next to books full of declarations
Of eternal love...
Now ring false, forever.
