Thoughts at Franklin Field

Man, has it really been a month since I've updated on here?!?! I've been so busy and dry regarding poetry I had to stop thinking about this thing for a while. I had to do so many scholarships, track meets (which included the Penn Relays!!!!), things in relation to the National Honor Society, quarterlies and other big tests, and other personal things I;d rather not divulge. Let's just say the drought is finally over and the dam has broken! Behold the new flow of poetry!!

*cough* Sorry about that. I'm just happy that I'm writing again. It had gotten soo hard...

I will be updating this more than once in the next week in order to try and make up for my absence and the fact that I have stuff I'd like to post. I wrote this first one at the Penn Relays. It was after I ran my only race (I anchored our team's 4 by 400m relay team). I enjoyed most of my stay there, but something just shot out at me...I was inspired... and here are my "observations"...

Thoughts at Franklin Field

The Ivy League flag flaps proudly
Over my mendicant head,
White with grass stains shaped like words
And calls itself the best of the best.

The city peeks out from behind the stadium
To catch a glance of the athletes--
The mingling of the nobles and the peasants,
Both on the same level for once.

I wonder how proud Ben would be of this place,
One spot of history in the midst of modern progress,
Buildings used as billboards, ground used as a place of sport.

Here, it was sunny, then cloudy, then rainy, then cloudy, then sunny.
I couldn't sleep. Not with the madness in the air
And the incessant staring of the skyscrapers.

Hooray...this is a piece of heaven
Surrounded by an iron prison of hell,
Where grass stains mean glory
And mortality means a waste of time.

My wings are not weighed down by my feet
But by the thumbs of Reality.

The sun goes down-- an end to a perfect day
Of eating cheesesteak and
Sticking my spikes in my eyes.

Just a side note: I actually have updated my cast and bio pages, but d-land is having trouble making the changes and additions show up. Errrg. At least my links are working again on my poetry page...
